“I have two blessings in this world, my boy and Sarah’s House” - Sherman, a Sarah’s House Resident.
Sherman and his 8 year-old son, Quinton, have experienced significant loss and many unforeseen circumstances over the last year, but with much hard work and support from Sarah’s House the two are well on their way to a brighter future. Read Sherman’s story and find out more about this amazing duo and how this single father's dedication is building a better life for him and his son.
On the edge of Fort George G. Meade Army Base, Sarah’s House provides emergency shelter for as many as sixty-six people and transitional housing for twenty-two families. As a supportive housing program for homeless families, Sarah’s House is much more than just a safe place to sleep. Our goal is to effect positive change in the families we serve by providing parenting classes and workshops, employment programs, licensed childcare, counseling, and transportation, all aimed at assisting our guests to achieve independence and strengthen their families.
"Everything that I have been able to do - get my kids in daycare, find a full-time job, learn how to budget my money - is thanks to Sarah's House, " said Lauren, a former Sarah's House resident. " The volunteers and staff have been wonderful, and have been such a help to me and my family. This program teaches you a lot and gives you the tools to be independent. I am determined to make it on my own, and thanks to Sarah's House I am more determined than ever."
